Psychologist has a doctorate degree in the study of brain functioning, mental disorders, and developmental concerns. Many psychologists also provide support navigating the normal crises in an individual’s life as well as communication and relationship issues. They are able to diagnosis and treat mental disorders, and, like a psychiatrist, use an individualistic perspective. In most states, psychologists are unable to prescribe medication, and use other therapy techniques, such as talk-therapy and behavioral therapy, to treat patients. They can be trained in psychoanalytic, cognitive, Gestalt and other therapeutic approaches to help facilitate change in the client. Psychologists are trained in providing comprehensive assessments and evaluations. Psychologists are licensed by the state in which they work.
